Whatsapp has been warning its users for a little while now that they will face a block at the end of 2019. Whatsapp has recently confirmed on its support page the Windows Phone users will lose all access to the messaging application from December 31 2019, But that’s not all!

The deadline provisioned for the Windows smartphone market will also be followed by iPhones running IOS older than version 7, Android devices running Android 2.3.7 will also be facing the block list. The date for the iPhone and Android block has also been announced and will be coming into affect from February 1 2020.

If you or a loved one love using WhatsApp and have a phone which matches the criteria above, you may need to head online or in-store to get that well deserved upgrade.

WhatsApp commented on the decision to stop supporting older hardware in a blog post “As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use”. “While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they dont off the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future. This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family and loved ones using WhatsApp. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a new Android, iPhone or Windows phone to continue using Whatsapp.”
